Case Study 04 - Slot House, Kyoto
SLOT House In Kyoto there are many long, narrow urban residential sites. How do you generate an exuberant and dynamic atmosphere within such confines?
The SLOT House is designed for a 5.5m wide site. Two curving walls rise vertically and various private and public spaces are arranged around them. These walls contain stairs and storage spaces, and they articulate single, double and triple height spaces. Sometimes they are thick but sometimes they are just a screen. Spaces compress and expand, they double up and overlap. Even on a tight rectangular site this house is fluid, spacious and delightful.
